Literature Text

You were the sunshine
that once lit my days,
the glow of the orb,
the warmth of the rays
but since the sun set
beyond my life's sea
the light has been
leaking out, gradually.

Who knew a decade
could be spent in the dark?
Away from your sunshine,
away from your spark?
Yet I've always known
that you were the one
and you can't see the colours
without the sun

----------------------------

Strange how a decade
can spill through your hands
even if they cup and cherish;
even if they press and pray -
Pads together, palms apart.

Strange how a person
can leak from your life,
even if you kiss and hold them,
even if you stay nearby -
lost to your heart.

Strange how a lover
can flow from your arms,
even if you try to grasp them,
even if you plead and cry
backs together;
poles apart.

-----------------------------

How I want to be the pen
you tucked inside your shirt today,
Nestled there against your skin -
please let me in;
please let me stay.

------------------------------

In my mind we're at her wedding,
both invited, but apart.
In this dream I wear the necklace
that shows you my inner heart.

In this future you are silent
as you gaze across at me.
At this venue, we are partnered
with another; never free.

In my pulse though, secret language
spreads around us - past - above.
In the quiet I hear clearly
words of joy, of hope, of love.

In your eyes I read the message;
you cannot be at my side.
In my smile you see the sadness
that the gap is far too wide.

In my walk you know my sorrow
and my dream, and both are true
In this place our hearts are meeting
and mine soars to be with you.

In this little holy city
you remember how we met.
In this hope we aren't together
but we aren't apart - not yet.

In the echo of our past days
is the love we used to feel
In this moment, growing solid
taking flesh, reborn, half real.

In this puzzle are four people
lovers, dreamers, husbands, friends.
In between us is the story
and I don't know how it ends.

------------------------------

You are my dream deferred,
My love unconsummated,
My distant Hope,
My uphill slope;
the one to whom I'm fated.

You are my fondest wish,
the soul to whom I'm tethered
And in my tale,
You are the scale
By which all men are measured.

------------------------------
Unconsummated / Unrequited  love is a pain in the behind.
